Since the game already eschews Adventure Island's slippery mechanics (a wise choice, to be sure), it could have shown off more creative and exciting segments that fully utilize its impressive bestiary without presenting a face-breaking challenge factor. Variety could have saved Dinocide from mediocrity. You lob some stones, dodge a few bullets and call it a day. Aside from solid old school visuals and decent boss music, there's nothing about these confrontations that stands out in any way. On the other hand, these pests are pushovers. On one hand, it's cool to square off against massive, ancient creatures like a prehistoric fish or a fire-breathing dinosaur bathing in lava. Outside of that tense moment, every section is forgettable and no particular situation stands out from the pack.Įven boss encounters are nothing special. You also won't run afoul of a variety of traps or unique dangers besides enemies and standard pits until late in the campaign, when the game showcases a brief segment where you must outrun rising lava. Whenever you meet a foe, dealing with it requires little more than basic attacks and rudimentary dodging. Rather, part of the issue lies in enemy and obstacle placement. ![]() It would be lazy of me to merely dismiss Dinocide as "too easy." Its difficulty rating is not the problem. ![]() Sadly, you don't see that guy often enough. ![]() During one excursion, I found a mech equipped with rapid-fire missiles. I will admit there are some neat hidden goodies, though. Shops are few and far between, and they only offer weapons and mounts you can easily locate during the natural progression of your quest. Mostly, you earn gems that function as currency, but that doesn't matter much. Granted, stages do eventually branch into alternate routes and sport hidden nooks, but the rewards for exploration are nothing special. I expect simplicity and ho-hum design from a platformer's early stages, but Dinocide never fully transitions into the engaging, addictive sidescroller it could be. Many of them are straightforward affairs that consist of running to the right, leaping over pitfalls and slaying basic monsters. Sadly, though Dinocide offers a fitting visual homage to Hudson Soft's dino-killing romp, the indie platformer biffs it in the interactive categories.įor one thing, Dinocide's stages are bland and repetitive. The notion of playing a modern clone of the NES classic might excite you, but I'd ask you to still your quivering heart. Throw in a skateboard and a ball cap and Dinocide would be indistinguishable from Adventure Island II. For instance, red theropods don tough, fire-resistant scales, while Stegosaurus-like critters are immune to the poisonous water of the swamps.ĭoes this game sound familiar yet? Well, how about this? the game also features a hunger meter that drains over time. Occasionally, he also mounts a newly hatched dino with a unique talent. Along the way, he throws rocks, stone axes and boomerangs at ancient reptiles and peculiar creatures. The mighty bearded protagonist bashes his way through jungles, poison marshes, beaches, parched deserts and ice caves in an effort to rescue his love. Our enraged hero, who is not named Master Higgins this time, leaps into action. Unfortunately, their cuteness angers a dinosaur god, who nabs the cavewoman and stomps off into the distance. A pair of 8-bit cave folk cuddle in a lush, prehistoric environment while charming, dated melodies play. ![]() Dinocide's introductory cutscene returns to the early '90s, stylistically speaking. ![]() TV will always have there place in the house, except they'll get smarter and connecting in closer with your other devices like tablets. The Internet is getting so big we need IPv6 to keep pace! Networks will get more resilient and reliable. Or we only notice it when the Internet isn't working. Also limits and regulations can be the death of innovation and new ideas ever getting off the ground.Ī4: Internet will keep getting faster and faster to the point we won’t even notice load time. The big problem governments face is that the technology changes so rapidly and it is very hard for them to keep pace with the change and protect everybody. Companies and people need to be aware of possible cyber threats out there and take on the responsibility to protect themselves. But the Australian government could always do more to educate. As I understand Internet banking is not as widespread in China and that has lead to companies like Alipay, Tencent and Baidu filling that void.Ī3: Yes. Australians were very fast adopters of Internet banking so paying yours bills is done online with a system call Bpay. Our local taxi authorities have apps for taxis or there is Uber. The closest thing is eBay but it will take at least week for an item to get to your door if you're lucky and the range isn't as extensive. For instance, in Australia there is nothing like Taobao. ![]() Mobile e-commerce is growing in Australia but it is not as big as it is in China where most people use their mobile phones to make purchases.Ī2: Yes in Australia you can use the Internet or mobile phone to pay for just about anything! But compared to China adoption hasn't been as rapid and our apps aren't as good because of it. Most Australian mobile phone users have a smartphone and have an 3G or 4G Internet on it. Most people in China access the Internet on their smartphones whereas in Australia we still have very high desktop computer broadband use. If you are accessing websites hosted within China the speed is quite fast because the servers are hosted locally and there is low latency between the user and the server. Insiders suggest that, apart from raising privacy protection awareness, strengthening supervision and law enforcement efforts should be the fundamental solution to such problems.Daniel Rothman, coming from Australia, is a web designer who has been living in China for two years.Ī1: The Internet in China is slow compared to Australia if you are accessing websites that are not hosted within the country. Statistics shows that China had 17 million mobile apps in 2016, covering various services, including chat, dinning, shopping, and travelling, so mobile users are faced with enormous risk of personal information leakage.Īlthough China regulates mobile apps by not allowing personal information including location, contacts, photos, and videos to be collected without users’ permission, some internet companies still violate the regulations. Insiders pointed out that, as mobile apps are usually free to download, many internet companies try to gain by collecting users’ data for marketing purposes. And over 2.05 million malwares were detected by China’s National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center in the same year, up 39 percent from 2015.Ī report on privacy safety of Android mobile phones in China in 2016 found that 13 percent of non-game mobile apps obtained users’ location information and 9.1 percent of them obtained users’ contacts list. More than a million (1,085,455) cases involving malicious mobile apps were reported in 2016, up 49.1 percent year-on-year, among which mobile users’ information theft was most serious. However, a large number of copycat and pirated apps excessively access users’ personal information, posing a great threat to users’ personal privacy and property security. 23.Īccessing such personal information as the list of installed apps, mobile equipment identifier, and location information are necessary processes for the normal operation of apps. Insiders say that supervision on mobile apps’ privileges should be strengthened, as a large number of malicious apps are a threat to users’ personal privacy and property security by excessively accessing personal information, according to the overseas edition of People’s Daily on Aug. |
